On the Board of Water Europe

July 19, 2019 The Water Supply & Sanitation Technology Platform (WssT) has a new name: Water Europe. With over 200 institutional members, Water Europe is the recognized voice and promotor of water-related Research, Technology and Innovation in Europe. This makes it a valuable interlocutor for the European Commission on water issues. Aveco de Bondt became a member of Water Europe last year, when it was still WssT. The new, more contemporary name was chosen last May following a digital survey of members. Together with the new logo, the new name was festively presented at the annual Water Innovation Europe (WIE) conference held on 12 and 13 June in Brussels. The event’s theme was ‘Water Meets Energy, Energy Meets Water’, and the keynote was given by Prof. Dragan Savić of the Dutch KWR Watercycle Research Institute. WIE is one of the series of three large annual conferences organised by Water Europe every year. At the Water Knowledge Europe (WKE) conference, the members forge coalitions for Horizon 2020 Research & Innovation project calls; the next WKE edition will take place in October 2019 in Valencia, Spain. While the aim of the Water Market Europe (WME) conference, which was held in March this year in Brussels, is to facilitate the identification of market opportunities for members’ innovations. The Water Europe Annual General Meeting is traditionally held during the WIE conference. On this latest occasion, the Annual General Meeting announced the composition of the new Board. Tomás A. Michel Mayer (Spain) was reappointed President, and Wim van Vierssen, director of the Aveco de Bondt company, Dareius (Netherlands), was appointed Vice-President.
